Has the winter thrown you off your home improvement groove? While there are certain projects you may not be able to execute during the cold weather months, you can still plan and prepare for those projects that you want to push off until spring.
Here are some ways you can take advantage of the down time and begin to plan your summer project.
While you may have the inklings of an idea for a project, take the winter to fully flesh out your vision.
This starts with picturing your ideal outcome, then working backwards from there. Write out a list of dates, steps, and goals that you want your project to meet. This will be massively helpful for your contractor when the time comes to begin the labor.
This can be one of the most fun parts of the project, so don’t be afraid to dream big! You can also check out some of our work for inspiration
It’s crucial to have a detailed breakdown of your budget going into a project. Figure out what price point is ideal for you, what you can afford, and what number you absolutely can’t go over.
This is the point in the process where your planning becomes much more concrete. Like it or not, what you can afford will dictate much of your renovation. So budget carefully, and, when in doubt, err on the side of caution.
This list will be your point of reference throughout the entire project. It should include your timeline, budget, schedule, and target date for completion.
You’ll really be glad you made this list once the project is underway. As things get chaotic, it’s crucial to keep some sort of measuring stick for you to keep track of your progress. If you fall behind on your targets, bring it up to your contractor. If you end up ahead of schedule, thank your contractor!
