A homeowner in Newbury, Massachusetts, called us when cracks began appearing in her wall. Her first thought was a problem with the structure. We stripped away the drywall and found that the structure was sound. The cause of the problem: all that snow putting stress on her home. We replaced the drywall, skimmed with a protective coating, sanded, calked, primed and painted to match the surrounding wall. The homeowner was very grateful, not only to discover that the home’s structure was sound but to have the patchwork finished to perfection.

The snow also resulted in leaks at a home in Essex, Massachusetts. In the photo you can see the footprints left in the snow by one of the WORKS team, as he inspected the skylights and roof for sources of the leaks. You can also see a gap in the skylight’s frame. Inside, he reported, “from the skylights all the way down to the finished floor, the framing and insulation were sopping wet.”

The WORKS team returned with equipment for drying out the walls; we removed all the water-compromised drywall and insulation, sprayed everything with a mold inhibiter and made the necessary repairs to keep the home structurally sound. We were glad to find that none of the electrical components in the walls were compromised.

The homeowner said, “I know a good many folks on the North Shore are dealing with these same issues. We lived in the home several winters but never one like this past. Never had a problem like that, but want to put things in a livable state asap….Thanks for your work.”

Unfortunately, the Essex homeowner suffered more damage than the Newbury homeowner but the lesson here is that you can’t know until you look. When WORKS comes onto a North Shore project, we do more than look; we have the expertise to evaluate, make recommendations and either take care of the repairs ourselves or call in trustworthy, licensed subcontractors (as we would have for any electrical issues). If you experience problems this winter, contactWORKS by Jesse DeBenedictis. We’ll make an honest assessment, keep you informed every step of the way and help keep your home safe and comfortable throughout every season.
