We recently hosted a Lunch & Learn session with Brian Villari from RCM&D, a company deeply committed to helping businesses manage risk and build safer, more sustainable operations. Brian’s perspective reminded us that safety isn’t just a rulebook—it’s about protecting people, reputations, and the long-term success of every project. Here’s what we came away with:

1. Small Risks Can Lead to Big Consequences
Brian emphasized that even “minor” hazards—like using a step ladder, dealing with awkward angles, or underestimating slip-and-fall danger—can cause serious incidents. His message was clear: treating every task with respect for safety matters.
2. Advantages of Cordless Tools & Cleaner Jobsites
One big shift Brian highlighted is the growing use of cordless tools. Fewer cords mean fewer tripping hazards, easier movement around the site, and a cleaner workspace. While speed tools still have their place, many of the risks we once accepted as normal are increasingly avoidable.
3. Air Quality Isn’t Optional
Dust, airborne particles, and fumes? They are real risks. Brian explained how investing in HEPA air scrubbers, dust containment, and other air protection strategies does more than just reduce cleanup—it protects crew health, both immediately and long-term.
4. Understanding Chemicals is Crucial
Being aware of what chemicals we use (primers, adhesives, solvents, epoxies, etc.) is more than good practice—it’s essential. Brian stressed that companies should ensure employees are educated about chemical risks, proper ventilation, and personal protective equipment. Exposure isn’t always obvious, but its effects can be serious.
5. Safety Doesn’t Stop When Tools Do
Brian also turned our attention to what happens off the jobsite. Driving habits, distractions, and even vehicle safety features all matter. He acknowledged that technology (collision alerts, etc.) helps—but better judgment and safer habits are still key.
The Bottom Line: Safety Pays Off
Probably the clearest message Brian brought is that investing in safety is always cheaper than paying for accidents. Worker’s comp, insurance, downtime, loss of reputation—they all add up. Proactive safety measures (equipment, training, chemical management) protect not just people, but the business itself.
We’re glad to have had Brian Villari and RCM&D join us, bringing insights that will improve how we work every day. These aren’t just suggestions—they’re steps we can take to make sure everyone goes home safe.
