Jim Gagne lives in a 110-year-old house in Manchester-by-the-Sea, which you might say already qualifies him to help WORKS customers. But Jim comes to WORKS with hard-won talent, education and experience, as well.
After working on heavy bombers and refueling aircraft for the US Air Force, Jim went to college for his BS on the GI Bill and then his MBA at the University of Hartford in Connecticut. He worked his way up from a residential installer for the telephone company, through marketing and sales positions and finally to a management position with Digital Equipment Corporation. Along the way, he moved his family to Manchester, “a great place to raise a family.”
When he and his wife decided that 10 years in high-pressure sales and marketing was enough, Jim took a position at an ACE hardware store, which happened to be frequented by WORKS. It turned out that Jim was a WORKS fan—of our sales and marketing! He saw that our trucks were well branded, with an attractive logo and tagline, and when we entered the store, we entered as a team. He reached out to us to find out whether the reality matched the appearance. We hit it off right away.
Jim has joined WORKS to help with operations, administration and strategic planning. In a way, he has returned to his roots: his father was a union carpenter with a journeyman’s license. Jim would help his father with carpentry around the house and his first job was in a lumber yard, where he was exposed to the nuts and bolts of a building project.
As for the 110-year-old Manchester home, Jim and his wife had the entire first floor remodeled a few years ago, and Jim has some good advice for other homeowners. “There’s a lot of complexity even in a small project. You need to have mutual respect—the contractor respects your vision and you respect the skills of the contractor and the subcontractors. The plumber, the electrician, the carpenter, the painter—they’re all professionals. You have to invest in your project to have it come out right. It’s a relationship.”
We’re proud that Jim Gagne has decided to join WORKS and help foster that relationship.
